How AI Companionship Develops: Evidence from a Longitudinal Study

Synopsis

Two-study design: Study 1 surveys 303 AI-companion users on agency, parasocial interaction, and engagement; Study 2 follows 110 users with a generic chatbot and finds perceptions converge to those of their pre-existing companion by Week 3.
